    Brining much awaited respite from sweltering heat, the timely onset of Southwest monsoon in Kerala has brought rains to parts of Kanniyakumari and Tenkasi districts.

    On Monday night rains lashed several areas in Kanniyakumari resulting in water logging in low-lying areas like Thiruvattar and good inflow into catchment areas. On Tuesday, it drizzled in some parts turning the weather in Kanniyakumari pleasant much to the delight of the people.

    Kuzhithurai recorded the highest of 64 mm until 8 am, on Tuesday. Kanniyakumari has an average annual rainfall record of 1,400 mm. On Monday alone, the district received an average of 37.74 mm. The onset of monsoon has raised the hopes of farmers. They have been relying on around 6,000 ha of paddy in the Kharif season and similar quantum in the second crop season.

    In Tenkasi district also, many parts experienced good downpour on Monday for over an hour. On Tuesday intermittent drizzling is seen. However, the flow in waterfalls in Courtallam is not up to the mark, sources added.
