    12 held in Tiruchy for killing jackal with explosives in meat

    Shortly on the foot of a pregnant elephant’s death due to cracker filled pineapple feeding, police on Sunday secured 12 persons from Tiruchy for killing a jackal by offering explosive concealed meat and they were handed over to the Forest Department on Monday for further investigation.

    It is said, wild animals like deer, jackal and wild boar used to prowl into the fields in Jeeyapuram area and damage the crops and so a few persons were habitually involved in hunting these animals and the Forest Department was searching for such offenders.

    In such a backdrop, on Monday, a police team secured a gang of 12 persons on suspicion. When the police inspected a gunny bag carried by the gang, a carcass of a jackal was found with severe wound on its mouth. Subsequently, they were taken to the Jeeyapuram police station and investigated.

    The group confessed to have offered the jackal explosives concealed in a piece of meat. When the jackal chewed it, it exploded and died on the spot.

    The accused were identified as Ramkumar from Poolangudi near Tiruverumbur in Tiruchy and his associates Saravanan, Jesudas, Saratkumar, Devadoss, Pandian, Sathyamurthy, Vijayakumar, Rajamanckam, Raju and Pattampillai.

    Later, they were handed over to the forest ranger Gunasekaran, forester Kotteeswaran and Saravanan. Further investigations are on.
