Murder of accused inside Madurai GRH sends shock waves

A forty-year old man under treatment in ward 101 at the hospital was hacked to death by an armed gang. The deceased has been identified as V Murugan of SM Nagar, Karumbalai. The incident occurred at 5 45 am, when the victim was asleep in the ward. However, he succumbed to injuries after being treated for about half an hour. The gang could have sneaked into the hospital, sources said.

Mathichiyam police inspected the scene of crime and held inquiries. Sniffer dog was pressed into service to find clues. However, there was no trace of weapon at the scene of crime, sources said. Preliminary inquiries revealed it as revenge killing. Murugan, the deceased, earlier was one of the accused in the murder of ‘Patta’ Rajasekar, who was murdered at Maiyamandapam under Vilakuthoon police limits in Madurai in 2019 over gang rivalry. To wreak vengeance on Murugan, the gang of about three or four persons were suspected to have committed the murder. Based on a complaint lodged by Nagalakshmi, wife of deceased, Mathichiyam police have filed a case under Section 302 of IPC. Two special teams have been formed to nab the accused, sources said.

Madurai City Police Commissioner S Davidson Devasirvatham said the investigation team has fixed the accused after getting vital clues. CCTV footage is being reviewed keenly and hoped that the accused would soon be nabbed.
