Velumani will be in jail next year: DMK principal headquarters secretary KN Nehru
DMK principal headquarters secretary KN Nehru on Monday cautioned Local Administration Minister SP Velumani that he would be lodged in the same Coimbatore Central prison where some DMK workers and journalists were locked up for questioning the Minister’s corrupt activities.

Condemning the Minister for issuing a statement faulting the ‘Ondrinaivom Vaa” campaign of the party, Nehru said, “Only 11 more months. The wealth amassed through corruption will not come to your (Velumani) rescue. Police officials would not be at your beck and call. The oppression you had unleashed on our party workers and journalists would come to an end then.”
Remarking that the local body representatives were laughing at the irregularities in procurement of disinfectants, masks and sprayers, Nehru said, “Administration of Chennai Corporation has failed so much that it requires special teams of IPS, IAS officers, special officer, special coordinator and a committee of five Ministers to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Even the Chief Secretary has written a letter reprimanding the Corporation Commissioner. If Minister Velumani has any sense of shame and pride, he should resign and return to Coimbatore.”
“Corporation of Chennai has failed miserably in containing the virus spread. While policemen, health workers and sanitary workers were engaging in COVID-19 prevention works, the Minister was busy focusing on making money with the help of the civic commissioner,” the DMK principal headquarters secretary said in his all-out assault against the Minister.
Stating that the Minister who has been making money through corruption in the last 40 months by appointing special officers for local bodies does not deserve to criticise his party president MK Stalin, Nehru asked, “What credentials does he, who captured the party by accident and converted it into a family firm and encroached the party office and mouthpiece, have to talk about our leader?”
