The principal opposition party has also called off the June 10 demonstration announced by the Opposition in protest of the decision of the ruling AIADMK to conduct Class 10 exams from June 15.

Remarking that students and their parents could have avoided anxiety and tension if the same decision were made earlier, DMK president M K Stalin, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the State government should engage in full-fledged coronavirus prevention activities without letting its concentration slip.

Wholeheartedly welcoming the decision on behalf of all parties, students and their parents, Stalin said the demonstration proposed for June 10 was being called off as the Chief Minister has accepted the request of all parties. The DMK president said the decision to pass all Std X students and cancel board exams in the State this year was made following the demonstration call issued by the party-led Opposition. However, he cared to recall the submissions made by the State government before the Madras High Court and said the incumbent regime was so adamant that it refused to even pay heed to the concerns expressed by HC judges on Monday.

Decision to cancel exam too late, says DMDK chief

Meanwhile, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder Vijayakant, said in a tweet, “the state government should stay strong in its policy decisions. The decisions should not be influenced either by neighbouring states, High Court or by the opposition from political parties and teachers.”

Vijayakant said that the decision to cancel the examination had confused the students, parents and teachers. “The decision to cancel the examination is too late considering the fact that hall tickets were distributed to students and the examination centres were made ready,” he added.
