DMK represented by its press relation secretary T K S Elangovan submitted that the plea was against the denial of implementation of 50 per cent of OBC reservation in the State surrendered seats to All India Quota despite the medical and dental council regulations clearly contemplating adherence to state reservation laws.

Earlier in the day a Supreme Court, bench comprising Justices L Nageswara Rao, Krishna Murari and S Ravindra Bhat asked lawyers for DMK, MDMK, PMK, CPM, TNCC and CPI to approach the Madras HC with their pleas.

DMK, in its plea, had said that it was opposing the denial of implementation of 50 per cent OBC policy of the State, other than in Central government institutions. It said the Medical Council of India (MCI) regulations clearly contemplate adherence to State reservation laws while filling up of the seats.

The CPM stated in its plea that respondents have grossly failed to provide reservations to OBCs. The AIADMK said that in all past academic years since the inception of the All India Quota system, OBCs have been grossly under represented in seats in undergraduate, diploma, PG diploma and postgraduate medical colleges across the country.
