When asked about the reason behind pregnant women from Tirupattur and surrounding areas flocking to this hospital, the doctors noted that the answer was simple – fear of COVID-19 and the feeling that they might be looked after well in government facilities. The figures for the month of April was 500 deliveries and normal deliveries during the non-pandemic period would be around 400 per month, pointed out officials.

Another success story for the hospital was the delivery of a 3.2 kg baby girl by sub-collector Vandana Garg a few days ago. A native of New Delhi, she chose the Tirupattur GH for delivery as she could not travel to her hometown due to lockdown restrictions. As regards to the increase in monthly dialysis cycles from 200 to nearly 500 in May, Chief Medical Officer S Dileepan said that it was the lockdown which prevented people from travelling to private hospitals even in nearby places like Vellore.

“They are now happy with our treatment as we are using 10 dialysis machines instead of the usual 6. Patients too are happy and there have been no complaints on this score,” he added. “If patients inform us in advance, we pick them up from their homes in an ambulance for dialysis,” he said. Notably, the hospital was given Rs 1.5 crore equipment to test all viruses including COVID-19.
