A joint statement issued by All Trade Unions alleged that May month salary was deducted by the corporations in violation of the State government directives. “The salary was deducted taking into account attendance average of last year and also illegally deducting their earned leaves. The salaries were deducted for those workers who don’t have the leave. The transport corporations which should have been a model employer by following the government order violated it. The MTC managing director who held talks with the trade union representatives on May 31 on the instructions from the principal secretary of the transport department should fulfil the assurance,” they said.
The Unions called upon its members to hold a massive protest in all the depots in the State on Monday. The Unions welcomed the government decision to operate only 50 per cent of the buses with 60 per cent of its seating capacity while maintaining social distancing and compulsorily wearing masks. “It is very difficult to implement government restrictions on carrying the number of passengers. In many terminus, the buses were getting full at the starting point itself and it would be difficult to regulate the passengers boarding the buses at the bus stops,” it said.
