N Devadoss, president of Rameswaram Fishermen Association, said a total of four fishermen ventured into sea by a mechanised boat earlier this week, but among them, only one fisherman identified as Sesu (62) returned ashore. Conceding to demands of fellow fishermen, many did not venture into sea to take part in the protest demonstration on Wednesday morning. However, fishing operations resumed after 2 pm. The missing fishermen are identified as Regin Baskar (40), Malarvannan (50) and Astin Sujinder (22) sources said.

While the protest was on, Ramanathapuram Collector K Veera Raghava Rao held talks with the agitating fishermen and pacified them, citing search and rescue operations have been continuing with the aid of agencies, including Indian Coast Guard, Navy and Coastal Security Group personnel. The crowd after being convinced dispersed.
