    Districts see spike, Tamil Nadu records over 2K cases

    The State recorded more than 2,000 cases for the third consecutive day with 2,075 testing positive on Friday. However, Chennai recorded 1,322 of the total numbers but Vellore, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Madurai reported a significant rise in the number of cases. A total of 40 persons who arrived from other States/countries also tested positive taking the total tally up to 54,449.

    While a week ago, Chennai constituted more than 70% of COVID-19 cases on a daily basis, for the last few days, other districts are witnessing a spike. On Friday, Chennai accounted for 62% of the new cases.

    Vellore reported the highest single day spike with 103 cases, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur reported 95 and 85 cases respectively. Madurai reported 58 while Kancheepuram and Tiruvannamalai reported 39 and 37 cases of COVID-19 respectively. Coimbatore, Ranipet, Ramanathapuram, Villupuram, Thoothukudi and Dindigul also recorded a spike.

    Forty one more deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu and 10 of the deceased did not have any underlying co-morbid conditions and died after developing respiratory issues or COVID-19 pneumonia. Fifteen deaths were reported in private hospitals, while 26 were recorded in government hospitals across TN on Friday. The toll in the State stands at 666.

    A total of 1,630 people were discharged from several hospitals across the State post recovery from COVID-19 taking the total number of those discharged after treatment to 30,271. While 27,537 samples were tested, cumulatively 8,27,980 samples were examined.
