Influx from Chennai: Tiruchy civic officials start tracing 2,000 persons

Official sources said that around 5,000 persons from various parts of state, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Pondicherry and Kerala had applied for e-pass for the past one week, but their applications were rejected. Among them, around 70 per cent was to Tiruchy city. “Though their applications were rejected, we fear, these people may use other mode of transports and even illegally enter into the district especially to the city and so it is worrying that there may be high number of cases in the coming days,” a Corporation official said on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the officials have started to contact the applicants and started inquiring about their current residing places. “We expect at least 2,000 persons have arrived in the city and are tracking them so that preventive steps would be taken on time,” the official said.
