‘Safety checks in place for online classes’
The Ministry of Information and Technology informed the Madras High Court on Thursday that online education is the new norm under the prevailing extraordinary situation and the Government of India was committed to ensuring that it is safe for children and has issued advisories from time to time on various vulnerabilities and risks in websites and mobile applications.

Responding to a plea moved by Saranya, a mother of two children, against holding online classes without framing rules as it puts children on the path of explicit content, the counter said: “Online education is an evolving concept and has become a necessity during this pandemic time and both the Centre and the State Government are keen that students need to have continuity in their studies.”
Pointing out that a robust framework has been put in place under the Information Technology Act 2000 and CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), the counter said this year alone, 39 advisories have been issued so far for safe internet use and browsing.
