The Tamil Nadu government will soon take a decision on whether to declare all-pass for private candidates following requests and feedback from various stakeholders.

After promoting general candidates, who were to appear for SSLC exams this year, the School Education Department made no specific announcement whether there would be separate exams for private candidates. However, the district education authorities said last week that board examinations would be conducted for private candidates, adding that the dates would be announced later.
The record from Directorate of Examination show that 10,742 private candidates had registered to appear for the exam this year. In addition to this, 23,581 candidates have applied to write arrear papers in the old syllabus.
A senior official from the Directorate told DT Next that requests have been pouring in to officially declare all-pass for private candidates. “Conducting exams for private candidates is impossible at least in the next two months considering the pandemic situation prevailing in the State,” he said.
The official added that the issue was brought to the notice of the expert committee that has been constituted by the State government to look into the academic issues that emerged due to the pandemic.
“The matter has been thoroughly discussed by the members of the committee and soon a report will be submitted to the government very soon,” he said. “The only issue is that the overall pass percentage of private candidates over the years is less, and declaring all-pass might irk bright candidates,” the official added.
State Platform for Common School System – Tamil Nadu (SPCSS-TN), general secretary PB Prince Gajendra Babu said marks for attendance, which was announced for regular candidates, would discriminate the private candidates.
