Chennai
While Chennai has been reporting a decline in cases and recorded 1,157 new ones on Thursday, neighbouring Tiruvallur reported an alarmingly high tally of 526 cases. Senior officials from the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said that increased testing and intensified contact tracing have led to more cases in the district. The officials added that increased transportation to Chennai from the district is also responsible for a spike in the district.

Madurai also witnessed a slight decline with 267 cases while Kanniyakumari reported 146 and Dindigul recorded 126 new cases.
