    CBI to grill 3 more cops in custody

    The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Madurai on Monday granted the CBI three-day custody of three more cops jailed in connection with custodial deaths of P Jayaraj (58) and his son J. Bennix (31) last month.

    The accused suspended cops Samadurai, Vail Muthu and Chelladurai were brought to the court under tight security and produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate T V Hemandakumar. The CBI team in sought five days custody of these accused. After hearing the petition, the Chief Judicial Magistrate directed the CBI team to produce the accused back at 4.30 p.m., on July 23. The accused were then taken to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, where they were medically examined before being taken for interrogation, sources said.

    As part of the CBI probe, doctors, who examined the condition of the father-son duo in Kovilpatti sub jail and GH, were interrogated on Monday in Kovilpatti.

    Moreover, Deputy Director of Medical Services and Family Welfare, Pon Esakki on Monday conducted inquiry with Dr Vennila of Sathankulam GH , who’s in trouble as she was said to have certified medical fitness for the injured Jeyaraj and Bennix on June 20 before the Sathankulam cops took the duo to remand them in Kovilpatti sub jail, sources said.
