In a statement, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said that the education policy announced by the Union government deprives the state of its rights, centralisation of power, opens up education to commercialisation, saffronisation, denies education to the poor, neglect the reservation of the oppressed and imposes the obsolete Sanskrit language on non-native speakers.

“The policy has been rejected by all quarters, including educationists and political parties. Any change in education will have a direct impact on social, economic and cultural activities. It is for these reasons that many are calling for the complete abandonment of this national education policy,” he said, adding that due to this, all political parties in Tamil Nadu, except the BJP are demanding the rejection of this education programme.

“The state government should not shrink its responsibility with a single demand to abandon the trilingual policy,” he said, adding the government to reject the policy completely and demand the Centre to drop it.

MNM president Kamal Haasan, in a tweet, insisted that the state government should oppose the national assessment centre, PARAKH, national testing agency and the national curricular framework which are taking away the state’s right in the education policy.
