A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), which conducts engineering counselling, said there was a steady rise in the number of applicants. Since August 1, more than 1,00,000 have applied, the official said.
Meanwhile, sources from the directorate added that 1,35,001 candidates have registered online as on August 3.
Of the 1.35 lakh applicants, 1.06 lakh have paid their registration fee as well. “As only 10 more days are left for the filing online application, we are expecting that more than 1.50 lakh students will register,” the official said.
He pointed out that more number of students have registered for engineering admissions this year. According to him, this was because the Union government has not yet announced the schedule for various competitive exams, including National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
Meanwhile, an official from the Directorate of Collegiate Education said it has been receiving about 20,000 online applications every day from the students seeking admissions in government and government-aided Arts, Science and Polytechnic colleges.
He said the department has established a control room to help the students clear their doubts with regard to online admission. The students could contact 044-22351014 and 044-22351015 to reach out to the control room.
The official added that more than 50 facilitation centres would also be set up for the students to clear their doubts about the online admission process.
