Government Medical college to offer PG diploma in diabetes
The State Health Department is starting a post-graduate diploma course in diabetes education in the Institute of Diabetology at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College from the academic year 2020-21 with an annual intake of 10 students.

The course was initiated by the Directorate of Medical Education as part of the Allied Health Sciences group in the Department of Diabetology at the government medical college and hospital. The course duration is of two years and anyone who has completed MBBS or has a permanent registration provisional MBBS pass certificate issued by the Medical Council of India or the State Medical Council.
The senior officials from the Directorate of Medical Education say that Diabetes Education has become significant with non-communicable diseases. The course is being adopted by several other medical college and hospitals also.
Though any financial aid will not be raised for the course for selection or other requirements of the course, the selection committee would take 10 students for the post-graduate diploma course and there will be no direct addition of more posts for the said course by the government. The selection criteria would be based on the percentile system, with 50 being the minimum percentile and 40 per cent for SC, ST and OBC category.
The Madras Medical College was the first to introduce the course in the State.
