No discrepancy in Class 10 valuation: School Education Minister

Speaking to reporters after participating in the function to release water from Bhavani Sagar Dam in Erode, Sengottaiyan said that a few who have secured low marks have raised such issues.

“But there is no such shortcoming in the valuation process. Marks were given based on quarterly, half yearly exams and taking student’s attendance into consideration. Hence, many students have scored 500/500 in the exam. Those students, who have doubts, can apply for revaluation,” he added.

The Minister’s clarification comes in the wake of parents and student’s besieging a couple of private schools over the last few days demanding better marks. They alleged that best performing schools evaluate the quarterly and half year exams strictly to motivate the students to work harder and score better marks in public examinations. These students could have scored well in the public exam, but the new evaluation system left them with lesser marks and was eventually unable to get their preferred groups in Class 11.

Responding to a query on appointing those, who have passed the TRB exam, Sengottaiyan said that it is a policy decision by the government. “Currently, no decision could be taken on even reopening schools due to COVID-19 pandemic. Being so, it is not possible now to appoint them,” he said.
