Nilgiris cops go digital with mobile app

The Nilgiris district police on Monday launched a new mobile application to enable people to lodge complaints without having to visit the police station. The app called ‘Nilgiris district police’ is likely to be a boon for people living in faraway places of the district even after the COVID-19 pandemic, said V Sasi Mohan, Superintendent of Police.

Apart from all sorts of complaints, the public can upload photos in the app on traffic snarls and any sort of violation for police to act too. The Nilgiris, being a preferred tourist destination, the app would also be a useful one for tourists. “Major information such as movement of wild animals along roads, road blocks, landslips and other important messages will be displayed in the app for the public and tourists to stay alert,” the SP said.

Besides this, the app also provides information on nearest water, ATMs and stops for public transport. The app, which is now available only in Android play store to download, will be available soon in the iOS version too.
