    The first online admission for students seeking courses in the state-run Arts and Science colleges this academic year witnessed more than 1.80 lakh registered students opting out to approach self-financing institutions.

    Stating that the rank list could be viewed by the students from Wednesday onwards, the government also made arrangements to remit admission fees in the respective college portal to ensure their seats.

    According to the data given by the Higher Education Department, with online registration started on July 20 and ended on July 31, as many as 3,16,795 students have registered online.

    However, of the total enrolment, 2,18,810 candidates have paid the registration fees and further only 1,35,832 students have uploaded their certificates. Of the total 3.16 lakh students, who had enrolled online to get admissions, 1.80 lakh candidates did not upload their certificates.

    A senior official in the Directorate of Collegiate Education said that the rank list will be prepared only for the students who had uploaded their original certificates.

    Accordingly, a total of 1,80,963 candidates from the total number of student’s registered have opted out to approach private institutions.

    He also said that the directorate cleared the doubts with connection with the admission process for more than 13,000 students either through SMS or over phone or email. “Certificate verification could be done by the students by going directly to the college of their choice,” he said adding “for out of station students, the authorities will allot specific dates so that they could go to college for certificate verification,” the official said.
