School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan on Wednesday reiterated that the state government has urged the centre to scrap NEET or at least exempt students from Tamil Nadu from attending the exam, if held. The centre announced that the NEET would be held on September 13 amidst concerns raised by the political parties over the pandemic.

“The TN government continues to hold its stand that NEET should be scrapped,” he told the media after inaugurating developmental works at Nambiyur village in Erode district.

Meanwhile, DMK president M K Stalin on Wednesday asked the ruling AIADMK to move the Supreme Court for postponement of NEET, if it were sincere in its opposition of NEET. Happily welcoming the decision of seven state CMs to move the SC for postponement of NEET owing to Covid, Stalin said, “if it (AIADMK regime) truly opposes NEET, if its concern for students were genuine, Tamil Nadu government should approach the SC like other states.”

Reiterating that the DMK was for scrapping NEET in toto, Stalin, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the postponement of NEET during stressful Corona pandemic times, which would spare students from the torture of exams, shall be the beginning of the scrapping of NEET.

The whole nation would welcome the seven states for opposing the Centre, which failed in preventing Corona virus spread and which is firm on conducting NEET, a deterrent to the educational progress of the poor and downtrodden students, the DMK president remarked. Wondering what would the AIADMK regime, which has been continuously staging a drama on the issue, do now, Stalin said the AIADMK regime should move the SC for postponement of NEET, if it truly opposes the exam.
