Minister launches online renewal facility for unorganised labourers
Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel inaugurated the facility for online renewal for unorganised sector labourers here on Wednesday.
Chennai
The new facility would be available on Labour Deparment webpage, https://labour.tn.gov.in, on which unorganised sector workers attached to all the 17 welfare boards can renew their membership. The Minister also launched the facility for online submission of petitions.
The unorganised sector workers were the worst affected after the State government announced lockdown due to COVID-19, as most daily wage earners lost their jobs. To extend support, the government provided Rs 1,000 as monetary aid for unorganised sector labourers who are registered with their respective welfare boards.
However, those who are not registered with the boards and also the ones who failed to renew their membership did not receive any help from the government. They had staged protests recently seeking relief like others. Following this, Minister Nilofer Kafeel said the facility to become members of the 17 welfare boards commenced on June 19. From July 20, ID cards were issued to the labourers who had not registered with the welfare boards.
The Minister added that the new facility would bring the unorganised sector labourers, who had not received the monetary benefit till date, under the monetary aid scheme.
