At present, there are about 90 government and government-aided polytechnic colleges functioning across the State and they have an intake capacity of about 14,000 seats.
A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) told DT Next on Friday that only about 12,200 students have uploaded their certificates though a total of 27,721 applications were received online.
“Even though we have extended the last date to upload original certificates online, only a few candidates have uploaded their certificates,” he added.
Stating that the rank list will be released based on the number of candidates, who have uploaded their documents, an official said that about 2,000 seats will be vacant in the government polytechnic colleges this year.
He said that a total of 13,538 first-year students were admitted in the government polytechnic colleges last year and of the total, 11,800 were boys and 1,738 were girls.
“It is being discussed to give another chance for students who could not upload their certificate due to lack of internet facilities,” he said, adding that candidates can also approach their college of choice directly for further clarifications.
The official pointed out that certificate verification of the candidates will be done in the student’s facilitation centre in all the colleges.
“In order to incentivise students to join polytechnic colleges, free textbooks will also be distributed this year, soon after the admission,” he said, adding “Soon after reopening of colleges, first-year students will get free bus passes and laptops.”
