DMK will convene the general council on September 9 with electing treasurer and general secretary as the agenda.
MK Stalin took stewardship of the Dravidian major following the demise of former CM M Karunanidhi, who then had to quit treasurer post.
Treasurer post as a result was filled by Durai Murugan, who is now vying for the general secretary post which fell vacant due to the demise of veteran leader K Anbazhagan.
Whereas, Baalu eyes the tresurer post since Durai Murugan bequeathes the post.
Nomination for the treasurer and general secretary election ends on September 5, that is when the final candidature list will be published.
Both Duraimurugan and TR Baalu are tall leaders of DMK, so a competition against them is highly unlikely.
This general council was long overdue as it was earlier to be held on March 29, which was put to hold owing to the lockdown and pandemic crisis.
