The organisations including Tamil Desiya Periyakkam and Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi members gathered in front of the Armory gate in Golden Rock Workshop and raised slogans demanding to give priority to the youths who had completed their apprenticeship in the workshop.
They pointed out that the recent appointments for the Grade III postings had more number of North Indian youths. They stressed that the clarification of the railways refusing such priority is against the interest of the people of Tamil Nadu who have been waiting for such postings.
The protesters demanded the Centre and State governments to ensure to fill the vacancies with 100 per cent from the Tamil Nadu in the organisations run in the state.
They urged the state government to draft an amendment ensuring employment opportunity for Tamil Nadu youth as the states like Gujarat, West Bengal and Karnataka had passed a resolution on their respective assembly in this regard.
After raising slogans, they attempted to besiege the workshop but they were stopped by the police in the entrance.
A heavy posse of police were deputed on duty to avert any untoward incidents in the location.
The organisations said that they have planned to stage such protest for the whole week to seek the attention of the Centre.
