    131 from uniformed services to receive CM’s Anna medals

    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday announced Anna medals to 131 officers and personnel in police and other Uniformed Services to honour their outstanding commitment to duty. The medals are awarded on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the late chief minister and Dravidian stalwart CN Annadurai.

    The 112th birth anniversary of Annadurai, popularly called as ‘Anna’ (elder brother), will be celebrated on Tuesday. An official release said in recognition of the outstanding devotion to duty of the Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Prison Service, Home Guards, Finger Print Science and Forensic Science Officers/ Personnel in the State and also to encourage them, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Medals were awarded on the occasion of Dr Anna’s birthday on September 15 every year.

    Accordingly, this year 100 Police Officers/Personnel from the rank of Superintendent of Police to Grade-I Police Constables, 10 Fire and Rescue Service personnel from the rank of Deputy Director to Fireman, 10 Prison Service personnel from the rank of Assistant Jailor to Grade I Warder, five Home Guards personnel in the rank of Area Commander to Home Guard Jawan, two officers from Finger Print Science unit in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police and two officers from the Forensic Science Department in the rank of Assistant Director/Scientific Officer have been chosen for the CM’s Medal.

    The recipients will be given a bronze medal and a lumpsum grant according to their ranks as specified in the Medal Rules.

    Moreover, S Veeraraj, Station Officer and S Selvam, Upgraded Leading Fireman, Fire and Rescue Services Station, Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli have been chosen for CM’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry for their gallant act in rescuing one S Ganesan (45) from committing suicide by jumping from the 70-ft-high overhead corporation water tank in Xavier colony, Tirunelveli on August 15. They will get a cash prize of Rs five lakh each.

    The medals will be presented by the Chief Minister to the recipients at a ceremonial medal parade to be held later.
