Sangeetha, aged 60, the president of the Coimbatore district transgender association, had recently opened a 32 seater restaurant named 'Trans-kitchen' in the city. She had offered to open the restaurant to improve the livelihoods of transgenders, was found murdered on October 21, Wednesday. Her body had many brutal stab injuries and was found dumped in the water storage tank outside her home.
Initial police enquiry revealed that Sangeetha went missing from Sunday night. She was last found on Sunday while she closed her restaurant after the business hours. The restaurant reportedly remained shut for the last two days.
Upon suspicion, an auto driver, who used to transport vegetables and groceries to her restaurant regularly, visited her house on Wednesday. After noticing a foul smell from a water drum placed in front of the house, the driver opened it, only to find Sangeetha brutally injured and hacked to death.
On being informed to the local police, the preliminary investigation began. Police sources revealed the body of Sangeetha was found to have many deep cut injuries and her throat was slit.
City Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan informed that though the motive behind the murder is yet to be known, two special teams have been formed to nab the accused in the case.
Sangeetha has been serving as the President of the transgender association since 2006 and strived for her community's welfare, said her fellow trans activists.
