Nearly 50 acute diarrhoeal diseases logged in two months

The State Health Department officials said acute diarrhoeal diseases are commonly seen in paediatrics across several districts in the State. The cases of co-infection along with seasonal flu and food poisoning in patients with acute diarrhoeal diseases are being reported in children below 16 years of age.

More than 44 cases have been reported in the past two months, mainly due to water contamination. As per the data of Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme of National Center for Disease Control 

(NCDC), at least three outbreaks were reported in several districts. However, the number has been low this year due to the lockdown.

The State Health Department officials said respective deputy directors seek reports of such outbreaks and hotspots are being identified to investigate the source of infection. As per the officials of the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, no major source of contamination had been identified. Measures to control water contamination in the specific areas have been done.
