Cases fall, care centres in integrated Vellore shut
With COVID cases reducing, the COVID care centres (CCC) in Vellore, Tirupattur, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts are being shut, said officials.
Vellore
Of the four districts, Tiruvannamalai had the highest number of cases initially till Vellore overtook it when people from Chennai returned to their native districts. “As on Tuesday, Tiruvannamalai has only 342 active cases while 17,163 persons were discharged. Due to this, 17 of the 20 CCCs in various parts of the district were closed. Existing cases are being treated at government hospitals,” said officials.
However, fearing that cases might spike due to people not following precautions, officials said, “We have kept 1,500 beds ready for any surge in cases.”
Similarly in Ranipet district, where 14,536 of the 14,972 positive cases have been discharged, 9 of the 10 CCCs were shut down. Now, the only CCC is located in the Arignar Anna Government Arts and Science College at Wallajahpet. In case of emergency, the Kannigapuram campus of CMC Hospital has 300 plus beds.
Among these districts, Tirupattur had the lowest number of COVID cases (6,752). Because of the fall in admissions, only the centre functioning at a private polytechnic in Tirupattur town is being used while the remaining four were closed. Vellore shut down 11 centres.
