Stating that the report of the completed trials would be sent to the Union government’s Ayush Ministry to hopefully enable top brass take policy decisions relating to Siddha medicine, he said the results would also be sent to international scientific research journals for publication.

The trials conducted at the COVID Care Centre located at Thanthai Periyar Government Engineering College in Vellore included 50 patients who gave consent of whom 23 were selected. However, 3 withdrew and hence the trials were based on the results exhibited by the remaining 20 patients.

The Siddha interventional regimen for the study included Kabsura kudineer, Amukkara mathirai, Thalisathy Vadagam, Aaduthodai Manapagu and Bramananda Bairava Mahirai, according to principal investigator of the study Dr Thillaivanan.

District government Siddha medical officer Dr Susi Kannamma said, “the test proved that all clinical parameters on which the trials were based were positive.

While there was a good increase in blood platelets number, the RT-PCR tests CT value changed significantly with 16 testing negative on day 7 and another 4 on day 10 proving the anti-viral nature of the drugs.” Dr Thillaivanan said, “COVID related medical complications like cytokine storm were prevented due to decreased serum ferritin levels while there was also reduced LDH lab parameters indicating inflammation, cardiovascular disease and coronavirus related consequences. Kidney function indicative parameters like urea, creatinine and live function enzymes like Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase and Serum Pyruvic Oxaloacetic Transaminase proved that Siddha medicines were effective in treating COVID cases.”
