Doesn’t concern AIADMK: Jayakumar on Shah visit

“At a time when the state is about to witness Assembly elections next year it is routine for leaders from Delhi to visit the state to strengthen their party, but AIADMK has no connection with the visit of Amit Shah. BJP might use the visit as an opportunity to strengthen their party,” said Jayakumar, addressing reporters in Chennai.

Amit Shah is set to visit Tamil Nadu on November 21 and the visit had created various speculations as there are rumours that he is set to meet several top leaders in the state. BJP state unit president L Murugan, however, said that the news of visit of Amit Shah had rattled the political parties in the state.

When Jayakumar was questioned about the statement of Murugan, the Minister replied that there is no need for the AIADMK to get rattled.

“I have heard from Murugan that Amit Shah is set to participate in government programmes but there is no official communication about his programmes. Meanwhile, opposition parties might be rattled, but AIADMK is not,” said Jayakumar.

When asked whether the AIADMK leaders are set to meet Amit Shah, Jayakumar replied that as AIADMK and BJP are part of a same alliance there is nothing wrong in leaders of both the parties meeting and discussing issues about elections.

When asked about recent spike in crime incidents, Jayakumar replied that Tamil Nadu will always remain a peaceful state and only because of its peaceful nature the state is able to attract huge quantum of investments.

The state government is trying its best to prevent crime incidents and criminals, irrespective of whom they are, stringent action will be taken, but when compared to the previous DMK rule, the state is safe now.

“During DMK’s rule even the government servants were not safe and there were many incidents where police officials and officials of other departments were murdered, but now the Union government and independent statistics show that Tamil Nadu is the safest state,” said Jayakumar.
