Register for your vote without fail, Kamal tells youth

In a two-and-a-half-minute video released on his Twitter handle, Kamal Haasan, who is the chief ministerial candidate of his party, reached out to all those who have not yet enrolled for their voter ID cards and urges them to take advantage of special camps to be set up later this month and in December.

“The highest honour of merit a person receives when anyone turns 18 is the right to vote. The most powerful weapon a person can possess is the voter ID. When a society fails to discharge the mandatory duties, people of that society lose whatever is rightfully theirs,” he said, taking a dig at the social media users who want change, those who say the system is not right, those who say all are thieves but they don’t have a voter ID.

Pointing to the importance of everyone casting their votes, Kamal quoted that in the recent Bihar Assembly polls, one of the candidate lost the election by mere 12 votes. “Every vote counts and amounts to the change that we merit. Especially, our homemakers. It is the discretion of the homemaker that has the ability to determine a victory or a loss,” he said, asking the people to make use of the special camps organised by the Election Commission on November 21 and 22 and December 12 and 13 to visit their polling booths to verify the electoral rolls, make correction, addition or deletion.

The actor-politician called upon the public to “Make this your mantra for the 2021 polls: I will change, I will vote.” He added: “Change of government is not just a political change or a shift in power nor is it an administrative change. If we converge where our right to choose is offered, then we will be able to witness that dramatic change that is needed at the moment. This is my voter ID (Showing his ID in the video). Kamal founded his party in February 2018 and unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. But, his party polled 16.13 lakh voters and registering a vote share of 3.78 per cent in 2019.
