Virologist debunks social media video on pandemic

The short video by the group’s president Dr Dolores Cahill, who claimed to be a molecular biology and immunology expert, said coronavirus was a seasonal virus which is active between December and April, for which treatment was available. “They are locking up people for last year’s flu for which there is effective treatment,” she says in the video. The tirade was also against politicians for allegedly messing things up.

When asked, Dr Jacob John said Cahill’s views on the pandemic had been debunked by both WHO and the Centers for Disease Control of the US. Her tirade is more against politicians, he pointed out. Asked about the high fatality rate about which Cahill says nothing, he said: “Death is always for someone else; nobody talks or thinks of their own death. But it is precisely to prevent this that people have been told to wear masks and follow social distancing.”
