Dry weather to prevail over TN till New Year
After a beneficial monsoon season, rain in Tamil Nadu would stop for a few days, said weather experts. This dry period is likely to last till December 28, with rains expected to herald the New Year.

“Due to the circulation of atmospheric overlay in the southern part of the southwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean, there will be light rain in one or two places in southern Tamil Nadu and mostly dry weather in northern parts for the next 24 hours,” said N Puviasaran, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.
Over the next three days, light to moderate rains are expected in a few places of southern Tamil Nadu, with northern Tamil Nadu seeing only dry weather.
“We will have a much-needed break, particularly in the Puducherry to Cuddalore Delta belt. The next rain will come from a system from west Pacific, which will weaken a lot and send a pulse (push of moisture) into Bay of Bengal. There is very less chance for the pulse to develop into cyclone,” said weather blogger Pradeep John.
Apart from the districts in west and central regions, the rest of the State received good rain during this northeast monsoon, taking the overall rainfall to an excess of 9 per cent.
