Legislators in Chennai and other districts have even started the first phase of the door to door campaign. The MLAs have started their ward wise morning campaigns too.

The DMK is even more vibrant. Visits by DT Next revealed that DMK sitting MLAs of reserve constituencies like Egmore and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar is far ahead in poll preparation works. As the sitting MLAs, KS Ravichandran and Thayagam Kavi are also confident of getting their seats and have intensified social media campaign and regular meetings with voters.

Saidapet legislator and former mayor M Subramanian have planned a monthlong daily campaign where he will walk for two to three hours covering more than five kms per day. “Annan Subramanian has the habit of running for 1 to 1-1/2 hours. Now after the warmup running, he walks down the streets seeking votes and we want to cover the entire south Chennai comprising four Assembly constituencies by January,” said S Sinthan, a DMK worker in Saidapet.

In the AIADMK camp Ministers D Jayakumar and K Pandiarajan are the early birds to kick start the campaign outreach programme in Royapuram and Avadi respectively. This is an early trend for both the AIADMK and the DMK, sources said adding that the coronavirus lockdown and the fear of a second wave of infection have forced the aspiring candidates to go for an early start, sources said.
