Following hospitalisation and blood pressure fluctuations, superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday announced that he would not launch his political party now.

The actor stated that he kept his followers in mind before taking this decision as it might affect their finances and health during the pandemic. "I consider my recent fluctuation in blood pressure as a warning from the Almighty," he said.

The 70-year-old pointed out that if he launched his political party, a poll campaign through social media would not fetch him victory. "This is something even senior politicians will agree with," he added.

"Just by interacting with people through media, I may not be able to make the change that I was intending to make in Tamil Nadu. This will be agreed by anyone who has political knowledge. I may have to meet lakhs of people if I enter politics," Rajinikanth said.

He added that this is not the right time to personally interact with lakhs of people. "Keeping the safety of my followers in mind, I have decided not to enter politics. However, Rajini Makkal Mandram will keep working as usual and I will serve my people without entering politics. Therefore, I request all and my fans and people of Tamil Nadu to accept my decision," Rajinikanth said.

Last week, the actor was admitted to Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, where he was getting treated for blood pressure fluctuations. He was in quarantine in Hyderabad as four crew members of his upcoming film 'Annaatthe' tested positive for COVID-19. Though he tested negative, Rajinikanth was observing quarantine. He was discharged a couple of days ago after his blood pressure stabilised.
