CM, Deputy CM to flag off jallikattu event
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam will flag off a ‘jallikattu’ event, organised as part of Pongal festivities, at Alanganallur on January 16, said Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar here on Thursday.

Speaking after inspecting arrangements for the smooth conduct of the bull-taming sport at Palamedu here, the Minister credited both the CM and Deputy CM for making the event a reality amid COVID crisis.
The event is scheduled to be organised at Avaniyapuram on January 14, Palamedu on January 15 and finally at the world fame Alanganallur on 16.
The minister said that rural local bodies, police and revenue department officials were working together to ensure that all safety precautions were being followed. He said registration of tamers would be held on January 9 and for bulls on January 11. Moreover, organisers, tamers, bull rearers and those assisting the sport would undergo RT PCR tests.
Also, galleries would be formed to ensure physical distancing and giant LED screens would be put up for spectators at the jallikattu venues.
This time, it’s not 300 tamers at one go. Instead, tamers would be allowed through the arena in eight shifts of 75 each, the minister said
