Stalin demands sops for film industry, theatres

Advising the AIADMK regime to take precedence from Kerala which has announced various concessions for the cine sector, including 50 per cent electricity bill concession for theatres and non-collection of entertainment tax by local bodies till March 31 and extension of deadline for payment of property tax, Stalin said the government should announce EB tariff, entertainment and property tax sops for the film industry which has been deeply affected by the COVID induced lockdown. Stalin also asked the state to extend the concession benefits to all industries.

Meanwhile, Stalin asked the Centre to immediately ‘halt’ the implementation of the three farm laws in the wake of the Supreme Court staying the same.

Responding to the SC order for staying the laws’ implementation, Stalin said, “The Union government must take cognizance of the observations made by the Supreme Court to reconsider the implementation of farm laws. The intervention by the court today shows that the Centre has not been performing its functions in line with the Constitutional mandate.”

Taking to social media to reiterate his opposition to the laws, Stalin tweeted, “Taking into consideration, the advice from all quarters, paying heed to the continued protests by lakhs of farmers and the strong opposition from various states and political parties, the Union government must halt the implementation of farm laws immediately.”
