    Counting of votes for the urban local body polls commenced at 8 am in all 268 counting centres covering 21 municipal corporations and adjacent municipalities. With tight security in place, election department staff, counting agents, party poll agents and candidates thronged the counting centre from 6 am onwards, Tamil Nadu State Election Commission sources said. Postal votes were counted first and counting of EVMs was followed within 15 to 20 minutes. Due to low polling the trend will be out within three hours of counting.

    • The ruling-DMK couldn't pull off a clean sweep in Idaikkazhinadu town panchayat in ECR, Chengalpattu. However, with the support of allies and independent candidates the Dravidian major is expected to clinch the president and vice president posts.

    • Of the results that were out for 76 wards in Chennai Corporation, DMK won 58, AIADMK 11, Independent 2, Congress 2, CPI 1, CPM 2.
    • Sameena Selvam, wife of DMK functionary Selvam, who was murdered earlier this month, won in her ward.

    • Two more seats for DMK. Of 39 wards, the party has won 31.
    • Of the 39 wards, for which results were released, DMK won in 29, AIADMK in 4, CPI -1, Cong 3 and Independent 
    • DMK captures 13 town panchayats in Coimbatore, including Thondamuthur town panchayat, which falls under former AIADMK minister S P Velumani.
    • Out of the total 1,374 corporation wards in the State, DMK has so far won 57 and the main Opposition AIADMK 7 and others 8. The DMK's allies Congress has won 7 and CPM 2, according to the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission.
    • Coimbatore turns DMK’s forte as the ruling party maintained a steady lead from the start to win 19 out of the 20 wards in Coimbatore Corporation, results for which were declared so far. There are 100 wards in Coimbatore Corporation. The AIADMK took solace with a sole victory of Sharmila Chandrasekar in Ward 38. The district was considered a traditional stronghold of AIADMK.
    • BJP candidate has secured just one vote in Ward 11 of Bhavani town panchayat. Not even the members of his own family have cast a vote for him.
    • Principal opposition party AIADMK has not crossed single digit in any of the 21 corporations in the State so far
    • DMK candidate Sekar defeats former AIADMK MLA Alexander in Ward 89 of Chennai Corporation
    • DMK wins in 14 wards, AIADMK-4 wards, PMK- 4 wards, AMMK-1 ward & independent- 3 in Vellore Corporation area

    • Ruling DMK leads in all 21 municipal corporations and over 100 municipalities. Opposition AIADMK gives tough fight in town panchayat wards.

    • Counting of votes delayed in Cuddalore district, including Manjakuppam St. Valanar School, as keys of strong room go missing.

    By evening, certificate of election and final results will be declared, sources said. 
    So far 15 cases of cash for votes have been registered and 1095 cases of poll code violation registered, sources added.

    Journalists staged a protest at Madurai counting centres for not allowing the press inside the counting station.
    Despite holding the duty pass issued by TNSEC, scribes were restricted access and asked to carry the 'official' statement.
    The victory margins are likely to be narrow due to low polling and an eight cornered contest in several wards are likely.
    DMK, AIADMK, BJP, Naam Thamizhar, PMK,  Makkal Needhi Maiam, AMMK, DMDK and actor Vijay Makkal Iyakkam have fielded candidates.

    Tamil Nadu urban local body elections were held on the 19th in a single phase. Elections were held for 21 corporations, 138 municipalities and 489 municipalities. A total of 57,746 candidates contested in the election, which was held in 12,601 wards with 1,369 wards in the municipal area, 3,824 wards in the municipal area and 7,408 wards in the municipal area.
