A petition has been filed before the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police of Cuddalore district not to allow permission to protesters who want to enter the Kanaka Sabha Mandapam in Thillai Nataraja Temple, Chidambaram.

The petition was filed by five residents of Chidambaram stating the protesters, including one Raju of Makkal Adhikaram, are trying to enter the prohibited area of the Thillai Nataraja Temple.

“The protesters do not have the belief in Vedic tenets and causing pain to the worshippers. Kana Sabha Mandapam is a small space where only 10 to 20 people can be accommodated at a time. During the outbreak of the pandemic, the entry was restricted to devotees into the Kanaka Sabha Mandapam and the same is continuing now,” the petitioners stated. The petition is likely to be taken by the HC soon.
