Reply sought on temple entry protests
The Madras High Court on Friday ordered notice to the state government directing the authorities to file their response on a plea filed against a section of people who are protesting with a demand seeking permission to enter Kanaka Sabha Mandapam in Chidambaram Nataraja Temple.
CHENNAI: The first bench of Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy passed the direction on hearing the plea filed by SR Ramanathan and four others of the temple town.
The petitioners sought a direction to the Cuddalore Collector and SP not to extend any police protection to people who are protesting for entry into Kanaka Sabha Mandapam.
“As the Mandapam is a small one the administration had restricted the entry on the basis of COVID-19,” the petitioner submitted. The bench directed the state to file its counter within two weeks.
