Compulsory TET: Review application to be filed against HC order, says counsel

CHENNAI: After the Madras High Court passed an order mandating that teachers who are working in government schools should have cleared the Teachers Eligibility Test for continuing in the service, the counsel for petitioner G Shankaran said that they would file a review petition against the order. “With the single judge’s order, about 4 lakh government school teachers’ jobs are at risk. Therefore, we have preferred to make a review application against the verdict,” the advocate told reporters on the HC premises. He further pointed out that while the Centre asked teachers working in the central government schools to clear TET only after 2012, the TN government wants teachers who join the service to clear the eligibility test from the year 2010. It may be noted that Justice D Krishnakumar held that as per Section 23 of the RTE Act 2009, teachers who fail to clear the TET are not entitled to continue in service in the government schools and institutions.
