AIADMK partymen walk out of first council meeting in Tambaram corporation
The first council meeting in the Tambaram corporation was held on Monday and the AIADMK councillors, wearing black, walked out protesting property tax hike.
Chennai: The council meeting started at 10 am at the Tambaram corporation office inside the Govindasamy hall. The hall was designed to occupy only 39 councillors. After Tambaram became a corporation, the hall has become too small to accommodate all 70 councillors. They had to be seated in 4 rows.
In the process, media persons and corporation officials lost their rightful space in the hall.
At the meeting, the AIADMK councillors and an independent councillor arrived wearing black clothes and started arguing about the hike in property tax. After a heated argument with the DMK councillors, all AIADMK councillors walked out of the council meeting.
Meanwhile, the media people were also asked to leave the hall by the deputy mayor G Kamaraj, who said that the press and media were not allowed to be in the meeting while the problems were discussed. “A press release will be issued at the end of the meeting. All of you wait outside,” he added.
This is the first time that media persons have not been allowed into the council meeting in Tambaram Corporation. Earlier, when Tambaram was a municipality, all media people were also allowed to its’ attend council meetings.
