‘Nan Mudhalvan’ programme to kick-start from April 18
The ambitious pet project of Chief Minister MK Stalin – ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ is all set to kick-start from April 18. Class 11 students in state-run schools will be provided livestream career counselling involving experts from various fields under the scheme.
Chennai: Launched in March 2022, the main objective of the scheme is to identify, train and offer career and academic guidance to the students studying from Class 9 to Class 12 in government and government-aided schools. More than 10 lakh students from these standards are expected to benefit from the project.
A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that as the government is keen to give counselling to every student in an organised manner, it was planned to conduct the programme for them in two phases.
“The first phase of the programme will be conducted on April 18 and April 19 for students studying in the science stream,” he said adding the next session —April 22 and 23 — will be organised for the pupils pursuing courses in other groups,” he said.
The official said that the session will be divided into two parts — two hours for the online stream career programme and one hour for students to spend viewing the availability of jobs in various sectors through the online portal, which has been developed under the ‘Naan Mudhalvam’ scheme.
Explaining the essence of the virtual sessions, the official said, “the experts will provide detailed career information to the students on various courses, including medical and its allied programmes, engineering, information technology, banking and financial services, insurance sector, government services, agriculture, telecom, law, defence and other sectors.”
He said, in addition to career counselling, the experts will also explain the importance of pursuing required higher studies for immediate employment.
Stating that more than three lakh students are expected to participate in the programme, he said considering the importance of the programme, all the headmasters were instructed to ensure that all the students concerned are participating in both the sessions.
“The school heads have been told that all the types of equipment, including overhead projectors with screening materials should be kept ready well in advance,” he said adding “they should also guide the students to get well versed to browse the website.”
The official said after the programme, the management of the schools will also get written feedback from the students with regard to the programme. “The programme for the rest of the standards will be notified soon,” he added.
