CHENNAI: It is a busy month of mentoring for the ruling DMK. After declaring September as the Dravidian month given several landmark dates of the movement falling on different days this month, the DMK is busy tutoring the Dravidian ideology and legacy to its young guns.

The party, led by its IT wing, has been organising meetings daily since last week on social media. Hosted on Twitter spaces, the IT Wing has been getting State Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, vice chairman of State Planning Commission J Jeyaranjan and a handful of Dravidian sympathisers and scholars to ‘lecture’ the party’s netizens every evening.

For instance, minister Thiaga Rajan elaborated on the buoyancy of Tamil Nadu’s economy and socio-educational growth owing to the visionary schemes launched during the Justice Party era. Jeyaranjan, for his part, detailed the radical reforms introduced by former DMK president M Karunanidhi in the food, education and health sector since the first DMK government in 1967 that put the state atop the Human Development Index in the country.

The online workshop has been done in addition to the Dravidian model workshops being organised across the State by the party youth wing headed by Chepauk-Triplicane MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin.

The youth wing has been roping in ‘Periyarist’ Suba Veerpandian of Dravida Iyakka Tamizhar Peravai, parliamentarian Trichy Siva and informed DMK spokespersons like joint secretary of party media wing R Rajiv Gandhi and journalist Govi Lenin among others to speak in the workshops (over 100 organized a month ago).

Organisers have changed gear and increased the frequency of such workshops on and offline in the Dravidian month.
