Make 'Makkal Nala Paniyalargal' permanent, Seeman to TN govt
Seeman said that DMK, which should make Makkal Nala Paniyalargal permanent, has been continuing the case in the Supreme Court instead of withdrawing it.
CHENNAI: Naam Tamilar Katchi Chief Seeman on Tuesday urged the ruling DMK government to make the 'Makkal Nala Paniyalargal' permanent.
"Makkal Nala Paniyalargal have been continuously cheated by Dravidian parties. While DMK in the 2021 election manifesto promised to make them permanent, they had not done so. Instead, the ruling DMK government announced that the workers will be given Rs 7,500 as salary which was not promised by them," said Seeman, in a statement.
The post of Makkal Nala Paniyalargal was created to carry out works in rural areas by late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in 1990 and initially 25,000 workers were appointed. However, the AIADMK government that followed removed them. Since then, Makkal Nala Paniyalargal were appointed and removed in alternate governments.
In the last 10 years of AIADMK rule, they were not appointed again. In 2014, the Madras High Court issued orders to make them permanent. Challenging the order the AIADMK government filed a petition in Supreme Court and the case is still pending.
Seeman said that DMK, which should make Makkal Nala Paniyalargal permanent, has been continuing the case in the Supreme Court instead of withdrawing it. The DMK government should stop the injustice done to the Makkal Nala Paniyalargal and should make them permanent, he added.
