Is it ignorance, hubris or staying politically relevant?

CHENNAI: You must have heard of the world-famous saying about politicians There are no permanent friends or foes in politics. It’s common for political parties, who were allies during elections, to part ways later.

Recently, Vijayaprabakaran, son of DMDK founder and actor Vijayakanth, recalled a comment he had made a few years back. He criticised former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on his elevation as CM in 2017and said that “EPS had crawled to get CM post”.

Such statements are repeated by the Chief Minister himself, the DMK party and its allies. However, it’s the first time that a party that had aligned with the AIADMK while EPS was CM has made such a comment.

Everyone who has been following State politics closely knows how much the DMDK lobbied to get into the NDA alliance in which AIADMK was the deciding factor in TN in 2019 and the way it had fought to get 4 seats in the alliance. But politicians have a fickle mind, and Vijayaprabakaran’s recent comment about EPS proves that.

The point here is that when discussions were going on in 2019, Vijayaprabakaran should have stopped the alliance with the AIADMK if such was his disdain over how EPS got the CM post. While he was silent during the 2019-polls, he recalls an incident that happened in 2017, it prompts the question: Was the DMDK blindfolded in 2019: If so, how did it happen?
