'Thiruvalluvar, Periyar spoke social justice for entire world'
He was speaking at the Third International Humanism Conference on Social Justice virtually on Sunday.
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday recalled the contributions of Periyar and Tiruvalluvar for the Tamil society and said that they were champions of social justice and social equality. Stalin, through video conference, addressed the third International Humanism Conference on social justice, in Canada.
In his address, Stalin said: "Thiruvalluvar and Periyar spoke of social justice for the entire world and I believe that social thinkers from different countries speaking different languages will agree to what I said. By taking Thiruvalluvar's Kural and Periyar's thoughts across the globe we can form a world full of humanism, social justice and equality."
"I am proud and happy that Periyar is becoming globalised. It can be said that Periyar became globalised when he lived. He travelled to several countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Russia, Greece, Turkey, Germany, Spain, France, Portugal, England, Egypt and Burma and spread his rational thoughts.He created his set of supporters during that time and even legendary poet Bharathidasan wrote about Periyar becoming global in his poems," said Stalin.
He also recalled the works of Periyar in which he spoke about the present day technologies way back in the 1940s. "Periyar had a foresightedness about how the world would become and what will be the scientific advancements that will happen in the world. In his book Ini Varum Ulagam, wrote in 1943, he spoke about wireless technologies and how wireless technology will be used by every individual, he spoke about sending pictures through wireless devices, video conferencing, accessing education from remote locations, food in capsules, no need for sexual intercourse for children, long life for humans, birth control measures, motor vehicles becoming lighter and advanced, electricity replacing petrol, ease of public accessing scientific equipment and so on,” said Stalin.
