Two girls die after falling inside septic tank in Theni district

MADURAI: Two girls died after they fell into a septic tank at Pannaipuram, a village near Uthamapalayam in Theni district on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Nikitha Sri (7) from Pavalar Street, Pannaipuram and Subashri (6), who resided on the West Street of the village, sources said.

The girls along with their friends were playing when the incident occurred. The covered portion of the septic tank was ill-maintained and the two girls accidentally fell into the tank after the lid was broken.

The others, who played along with them, raised an alarm and those nearby rushed the girls to Uthamapalayam GH, where they were declared dead. Based on a complaint, Kombai police have filed a case. Angered by the deaths, their relatives took to the Pannaipuram-Thevaram Road and blocked traffic seeking compensation.
